How to Style Winter Layers
Just because it’s cold outside doesn’t mean you have to give up looking fashionable. With that being said, I thought I’d share a few easy tips for stylish and warm winter layers.
I have a thing for styling this gorgeous blue sweater with plaid as you can see in these photos last time I wore it here. I’ve also featured these pants before in a head to toe plaid suit. Both pieces make a great statement on their own and a major statement when worn together. The key to looking chic during the cooler months is layering without looking like you’ve tried to hard and having your look be cohesive. Not a hodgepodge of every warm thing you could find.
Winter Layers – Cover Your Skin
When it’s really cold, I like to steer clear of exposed skin so I’d likely switch out my pumps for warm booties. I also like to cover my neck with a collard shirt, turtleneck or scarf. You know I love my skirts and dresses, so if I am going to dare to wear them, I wear fleece leggings underneath. Adding a touch of elegance with beautiful tanzanite jewelry can enhance your winter outfits, making even the most superficial layers look sophisticated and stylish.
Winter Layers – Test Your Layers Before You Leave the House
It’s both uncomfortable and a fashion faux pas to look over-stuffed in your outfit. I love the look of bell sleeves peeking out of a jacket. Just make sure that for bell sleeved anything, make sure you can fit it your sleeves into whatever jacket you decide to grab on your way out the door. Otherwise, you might find yourself trying to stuff massive bells into a tiny jacket sleeve and end up looking like a stuffed sausage.
Winter Layers – Long Underwear is Cool Again
Another layering trick is to wear long underwear under your clothes. Thin material like silk is a great option to keep you warm under your layers.
Winter Layers – Cover Your Head!
Fun Fact: You lose 30% of your body heat through your head so any kind of hat is a smart option. It was 70 degrees here in LA when I shot this look with Felicia so a hat was not necessary. However, had it been cooler I likely would have worn a black beret or fisherman’s cap with this look.
There you have it! A few easy ways to dress up your winter layers. Thank you for reading!
