Some people seem to think that all blogger’s do is go on vacation. So I wanted to share a the truth about blogger vacations. I wish I was always on vacation. I want to be traveling just like anyone else. But I am currently sitting behind a desk at 11 pm writing this blog post. I just want to be upfront with you guys on what goes on behind the scene with my vacation photos. Take this photoshoot for example, why am I dressed head to toe in this chic ensemble instead of enjoying the pool? Because I enjoy the pool after I get my work done and in this case, it’s taking outfit photos. Plus, I can’t resist shooting a chic look like this in a new location. Yellow umbrellas to match my favorite skirt?! Um, yes please!
Blogging while traveling takes a lot of time and effort. To anyone that has ever tried to get the perfect shot and had to take a few of them, imagine doing that your entire trip. It’s time-consuming, am I right?! I commend vloggers and bloggers who are able to document every single minute of their vacation (and trips to the grocery store) because honestly, I like to take time out to actually enjoy my trip. Hence why I don’t update the blog as much or respond to emails as quickly as when I’m traveling. I’m also just not camera ready 24/7. (If you ever see me out in public, there is a 95% chance you won’t recognize me because I’ll be wearing a messy bun, and no makeup whatsoever. But if you do see me, say hi! I’m always happy to meet you in person. 🙂
Here is what my pre, during and post trip looks like:
Weeks prior: emailing brands to collaborate, getting the product in, styling looks (one of my favorite parts) researching the place I’m going and where I want to shoot. Packing a giant suitcase of clothes, accessories, beauty products and props hoping it all fits. I even pack my professional steamer if we’re driving. Yeah, I’m that dedicated.
During my trip: following a loose schedule that will allow me to shoot the content I need to and still get time in to relax. For example, when Azusa and I were in Palm Springs last week we would shoot in the morning, go out for lunch, hang out by the pool, and then shoot more looks when the sun was not so torturously hot before going out for dinner.
After: Unpacking ( I actually enjoy this part and my suitcase is usually all unpacked as soon as I get home), all day photo/video editing sessions and writing my trip recap and sending all the photos and write up to the brands I worked with on the trip
My whole point is this, my life is not a vacation. But damn do I make it look good when I go. And please don’t think everything is free. Oh no, no, no. I’m paying for gas, food, my photographer to come with me, gas, food, and props to make my photos extra special. I do all this to make sure I put out my BEST content for the brands I work with because guess what, I’m a creative with high expectations for myself and if I’m going to do something, I want to go above and beyond every time.
If you want to travel and wear awesome clothes then here is my advice to you: start a blog. Give it your heart and soul, dedicate countless hours to making it grow. Anyone can start a blog, it’s those that go the extra mile with it and truly love what they do that become successful 😉
xoxo,
Laura
