Camping at Thousand Trails’ Petite Retreats: A Memorable Experience in Bend-Sunriver, Oregon
When you need a break from the hustle and bustle of city life, there’s nothing quite like a getaway to nature. Recently, I had the pleasure of experiencing a juvenating stay at the charming Thousand Trails Bend-Sunriver in Oregon. The picturesque surroundings and cozy accommodations with girlfriends made it a trip to remember.
Arriving in Bend-Sunriver
Our adventure began with a flight into Redmond’s RDM airport. After picking up our rental car, we made a quick stop at Trader Joe’s to stock up on groceries for the week. From the moment we arrived at the campground, it was clear that Thousand Trails takes pride in creating a welcoming atmosphere for all guests, including our four-legged friends. The park is pet-friendly, and it was heartwarming to see so many families enjoying the outdoors with their dogs.
The Charm of Petite Retreats
Petite Retreats offers a unique twist on the traditional camping experience. From tiny houses to yurts, each accommodation option is designed to provide a photo-worthy backdrop for your vacation. Our cozy cabin came equipped with all the essentials: linens, basic kitchen utensils, an oven, a range, grills, and a fire pit. It was the perfect blend of rustic charm and modern convenience – a true representation of glamping! (Glamping is a more upscale version of traditional camping – essentially glamourous camping!
Activities and Adventures
One of the highlights of our stay was the array of activities available at the campground. The old western theme added a fun touch to the park, and we had a blast exploring everything it had to offer. Whether tubing down the river, playing a round of mini-golf, or challenging each other to a game of pickleball, there was never a dull moment.
For those who enjoy water sports, the on-site company Bend Experience offers kayaks, rafts, and guided trips during the season. We spent an afternoon kayaking and taking in the stunning views, which was an absolute highlight of the trip.
Nearby Attractions
Bend-Sunriver’s location is perfect for nature enthusiasts. We hiked along the breathtaking Sahalie and Koosah Falls and enjoyed a peaceful paddle at Clear Lake. Suttle Lake provided the ideal spot for a picnic lunch and some relaxation on the sandy shores. A quick trip to the charming town of Sisters allowed us to explore local shops and grab a delightful lunch.
Culinary Delights
One of the joys of glamping is the food, and we certainly ate well during our stay. From skirt steak hot off the grill to BBQ chicken hummus wraps for lunch, every meal was a treat. Here’s a quick packing list to ensure you have everything you need for a culinary adventure:
- Lighter
- Cards and board games
- S’more supplies and campfire sticks
- Refillable water bottles
- Cozy layers for evenings by the fire
A Community Spirit
The sense of community at the campground was another standout aspect of our stay. The people were incredibly friendly, always willing to lend a hand or share a story by the fire. It truly felt like a home away from home.
Until Next Time
As our trip came to an end, we couldn’t help but start planning our next adventure to another Petite Retreats location. The memories we made at Bend-Sunriver will always hold a special place in our hearts. Read about my last stay with Petite Retreats and Thousand Trails in Soledad Canyon, California.
Until next time…
