For A Fabulous Festive Home Do These 4 Things Now!
If you want your home to be fabulously festive come Christmas time, be sure to complete the suggestions below well ahead of December 25th!
Decide on your decorations
Christmas is all about the decorations, and planning the look you’ll go for ahead of time this year can save you so much money, time, and stress. Indeed by planning out what decorations you will use and where, you will be able to identify any spaces that are not properly dazzeled with festive cheer!
Usually, the best way to do this is to use a pinboard planning tool like Pinterest, or Millanote, as these allow you to get great ideas and DIY projects. You may also need to review the decorations you already have and write a list of any new items you need for the coming holiday season.
Plan your gifts
One of the biggest Christmas traditions in our home is to give gifts to friends and loved ones. However, being up until 5 am on Christmas morning, and spending the whole of December with a bare space under the tree is a no-no at my house. That is why it’s a good idea to get ahead of your gift buying early.
The first stage of this is to write a list of everyone you have to buy gifts for. I like to keep a list on my phone and update it whenever a gift idea pops into my head. Then you can head online and start reaching for the perfect gift. It’s usually best to limit each gift-buying session to a maximum of 30 minutes or so as it’s easy to burn out. It also gives you the chance to wrap and label your gifts before the next lot arrives, which means a tidier home. (Insert dream craft room for gift wrapping here.)
Make sure your house is nice and cozy
Christmas is a great time to embrace winter and make the inside of our homes as warm and cozy as possible. Of course, how we will do this will very much depend on the individual home and the methods used to heat it. For example, if you have real fire, then you’ll need an expert chimney sweep to clean and maintain your chimney and fire. A pro chimney sweep can even check for the safety and soundness of your fireplace , which means you can use it without a problem during the colder months.
However, if you rely on an HVAC system then making sure you get a professional round to maintain and service it before the cold weather hits is crucial. After all, you won’t want a house full of people and it to be too cold while you are in the middle of entertaining!
Prep your guest room
Christmas is a time for hanging out with family and if they live out of state that means making sure your guest room is prepared for them to feel at home. Be sure that the bed or sofa bed you provide is as comfortable as possible, and that there are at least a set of clean bedsheets in case someone decides to enjoy their hot cocoa in bed. You’ll also want to provide additional comfort items like shampoo, shower gel and towels so they feel welcomed and cared for. That way they will also have more room in their luggage for the important things… Christmas presents!
