One of my favorite things to do in the summer is spend the evening in Venice watching the sunset over the beautiful canals. All of the homes surrounding the canals have so much character and everyone is out for a walk enjoying the peaceful scenery. Afterward, my friends and I walk to any of the amazing restaurants in the area for dinner. Abbot Kinney, the Venice Boardwalk and Washington Square (aka Washington Piere) are just a few blocks away from the canals and always a lively crowd.
One of my favorite local spots a block away from the beach is Mao’s Kitchen. It’s a BYOB (bring your own booze) Chinese restaurant. There’s a convenient store just around the corner to pick up a bottle of wine. When I lived closer to Venice, I used to bring friends here all the time and order family style so we could try a bit of everything. My go-to items on the menu are always the lettuce wraps, yellow curry, kung pao chicken and the friend rice. They are all amazing and just thinking about it right now makes me want to go!
Tony swears by Hinanos having the best burger in town. I’ll have to try it one of these days. We shot these photos a few weeks ago while hanging out in Venice before going to dinner. I do recommend bringing a sweater because the temperature drops as soon as the sun goes down!
