I have never been one to wear fur or even faux fur. I often think that it looks cheap and overdone. However, then I laid eyes on this eggplant colored caplet in the Nordstrom’s holiday magazine and turned over to the dark side. The only issue? A hefty $98 price tag. So I went on the search for something similar and was very excited to find a faux fur scarf at Target. Now all I had to do was connect two together to make my caplet!
Items you will need:
- 2- Faux Fur scarves (mine are from Target and also come in a deep green and black) Express also has a similar version on clearance here in wine, teal green, and windsor blue.
- 6-9 – Hooks (you do not need these if you decide to just sew the scarves together permanently.)
- Sewing needle
- matching thread (it is always best to bring your fabric with you to the craft store to get the best matching thread.
First- Line up your scarves so that the fur goes the same direction.
As you can see in this photo below- the fur is not lined up= no bueno.
Second- I decided to use hooks instead of permanently sewing the scarves together. This way I can still wear one as a scarf if I chose. Lay out where you think you would like to place your hooks on the inside of the scarf. I wanted to make sure I would not be able to see the hooks and that the caplet did not look like two seperate pieces sewn together. Test out where to place the hooks is best.
Three- sew together!
Add a brooch to pin and Ta Da! You know have your very own beautiful faux fur caplet for $40. This baby is definitely going to get some use for years to come. Email me if you have any questions and enter the giveaway for a chance to win a piece from the Laura Lily Jewelry Collection! Enter HERE.
