AMA’s Red Carpet Fashion
Tuesday I had the pleasure of attending my first every awards show, the American Music Awards as a guest of Marriott Rewards. It was an experience unlike any other. We got to experience the red carpet and a live awards show!
Getting Ready…
I showed up for hair and makeup at the J.W. Marriot in Downtown Los Angeles. The look I was going for was a classic Hollywood mixed with rocker edginess. My hairstylist Megan taught me a few tricks about creating volume with just texturizing spray, dry shampoo, and a teasing comb. We added in a few of my Bellami extensions for some extra volume.
My makeup artist Ruth created a super edgy cat-eye complete with the coolest lashes I’ve ever seen. They had a glitter band across the top. I wanted to avoid any kind of shine so we did a matte finish that lasted all day.
I had gotten a spray tan at home thanks to my-to faux tanning company Vita Liberata. My spray tan artist, Amber, created a natural glow for me with some contouring around the muscles I’ve been working so hard at the gym for. She specializes in fitness competitors so this girl knew exactly where to contour!
Right before stepping into my dress I applied Vita Liberata’s Body Blur in the color “latte/light.” Normally without a spray tan, I would be the color “cafe creme.” The Body Blur is like body makeup. It instantly adds a soft glow and an extra bit of color to your skin for a flawless appearance. The glow you see on my shoulders is from the Body Blur.
The Dress…
Stepping into my dress was a bit difficult without help. But I managed to get it on without ripping or smudging anything. Funny story about this dress, I found out I was going to the AMA’s last week and ordered a few dresses from ASOS. They didn’t end up making it in time (I am still waiting for them actually.) This is why it’s always better to play it safe and order backup dresses. I say dresses, plural, in case the dress you have your heart on does not fit or arrives damaged.
My yellow dress fit perfectly and the moment I put it on I knew it was the gown I wanted to wear. I’ve steamed a ton of different fabrics over the years and I will say I’ve never messed up anything with a steamer. But something about this cupro (synthetic silk) fabric did not like the steamer and I ended up creating a ton of little bubbles in the fabric in the chest part. Needless to say, I was not happy about this. I tried to find information about how to fix this online but nothing. NOTHING. I patiently waited for it to dry and then carefully, CAREFULLY, ironed out the little bubbles. I wasn’t perfect, but it was definitely better than it was before.
The Red Carpet Fashion…
Once we were all glammed up we headed out to the red carpet. I am curious if celebrities get nervous before walking on the red carpet. There is a lot going on everywhere around you. We tried to walk slowly and take it all in. Once we reached the VIP viewing areas we were able to see the celebrities arrive and the photographers screaming their names. It was exciting!! My favorites artists to see were Taylor Swift, CardiB, Dua Lipa, and Bebe Rexa. Heidi’s dress was probably one of my favorites for the night. Favorite red carpet fashion of the night…. Amber Heard’s Ralph & Russo dress hands down (photo above.)
Taylor opened the show with an amazing performance. Ciara was another favorite as she performed one of my favorite songs at the moments “Level Up.” Her dance moves KILLED IT.
The blue dress that I wore for the after-party steamed without any issues and was quite comfortable to wear. I had a lot of people tell me the blue dress was their favorite. The yellow was my personal favorite due to the striking color and cutouts, but I loved each of them.
The After Party…
The after party was held in the J.W. Marriot ballroom. There was live music, an open bar, tons tables with different food (my favorite part) and lots of fabulously dressed people. The celebs from the awards show had their own VIP area to go to so we didn’t see very many walking around. I was just happy to be comfortable sitting a luxurious couch enjoying appetizers and champagne with friends.
Afterward, Liz and I were able to capture these photos with the beautiful city lights as our backdrop. By the time I got home, I was barely able to pull my lashes off and wash my face before falling asleep. Thank you again to Marriot Rewards for having us! It was a day I’ll never forget.
xoxo,
Laura
