Togwotee Mountain Lodge Review

Back in February my sister and I spent a week in Wyoming. A few days in Jackson Hole and the rest of the week at the Togwotee Mountain Lodge.  The lodge is located in the Bridger Teton National Forest on Angle Mountain at 8,654 ft. It is near Grand Teton National Park and offers 600 miles of some of the most incredible snowmobiling terrains in the world. The few days I spent there was an experience I will never forget.  Granted, I had no idea what to expect. So I did what I have found to work quite well in situations such as these… go into it completely open-minded and ready to try new experiences.

The Experience…

Togwotee offers both spring and winter activities. They are quite well known for their snowmobiling adventures with you can rent right on the property.  I had never been snowmobiling and spending two days up in the mountains for the first time completely took me out of my comfort zone. I do not think I have ever had that much of an adrenaline rush over that long period of time in my entire life. There were moments on the mountain when I did not think I was cut out for this sport. Then, there were other moments when I felt completely on top of the world (both metaphorically and physically speaking. One of these moments was going 55 miles and an hour on a straightaway with the snow-covered mountains on either side of me.

Our first-day snowmobiling on a frozen lake.

Our guide Nick was amazing; he was very knowledgeable, helpful, and responsible. He took us out on frozen lakes to allow us to test our abilities a bit. He gave us a general guide on what to watch out for and how to handle certain situations. He also succeeded at making sure our very large group of 13 riders always stayed together.

The Food…

Breakfast, lunch, and dinner at the Grizzly Grill at Togwotee Lodge were always a highlight. It was fun to see everyone gather at night in the restaurant with a jukebox playing sharing stories of everyone’s adventures from the day being shared around the dinner table. They served delicious hearty meals that warmed us up and filled our bellies. From breakfast, lunch to dinner, I enjoyed every meal. I just happened to love the pot roast so much that I ordered it every night! Definitely recommend everything- especially the chili in a bread bowl for lunch after a morning of snowmobiling.

The cabins lit up at night with the sunset in the background.

The Lodging…

Togwotee offers two types of lodging: individual cabins and rooms in the lodge. The cabins are great because they offer more space (bedroom, suite, and kitchenette). However, there is a short walk to the lodge and it can get quite cold in the winter. The cabins are also dog-friendly! Our rooms at the lodge were plenty comfortable and just upstairs from the front desk, The Red Fox Saloon, and the Grizzly Grill.

Dog Sledding…

While I missed the opportunity to go dog sledding because I did not sign up early enough, I did get to meet the pack. John, one of the mushers, introduced us to the dogs and gave us a bit of information about how dog sledding works. When the dogs are not in Wyoming, they travel to Alaska to do dog sledding on glaciers! These animals are incredible athletes. All I had ever known about them I learned from the animated film Balto. After meeting these dogs, Kelly and I watched the filmed Togo which is absolutely incredible and one I highly recommend.
