How to Elevate Your Style in Your 30’s
Gone are the days when I would walk into stores like Forever21 and find a head to toe outfit. That store does not go past a size 6 let alone make anything long enough to comfortably cover my backside. Sure, every once in awhile I’ll find a cute top or inexpensive belt to add to my wardrobe. Other than that, I like to dress my age. Which is why I wanted to share with you how to elevate your style.
Think of elegant women and how they dress. A few of my favorites are Kate Middleton, Amal Clooney, and Blake Lively. Sure, not all these women are in their 30’s, but they have a fun, feminine approach to style that any woman can incorporate into their own.
Take this look I am wearing in these photos, for example. This sweater was only $35 and it is the softest chenille fabric! The belt was $12 on Amazon and is made of great quality leather. The skirt was only $28 (loved it so much I also bought it in red) The shoes a sale purchase from last year’s Nordstrom sale. The bag is a Henri Bendel which my heart breaks to say is no longer in business as of this past year. As for my necklace, I just pinned two Chanel brooches on an old faux-gold chain I have had for years.
So just how does one elevate their style in their 30’s? It just takes a few simple wardrobe tricks…
Longer Hemlines
Longer hemlines are where it is at. They are ladylike and comfortable. I love not having to worry about bending over too far and flashing the world. My skirts get longer as I get older and I am okay with that. The same goes for tops. I was never into midriff-bearing tops so forgoing crop tops is not difficult for me.
Wrap Coats
Wrap coats are my personal favorite because they show off your curves better than other styles of coats such as box coats, peacoats, etc. I recently ordered a few lighter weight styles to wear when it’s not quite cold enough to throw on a big winter coat, yet my outfit is more dressy than just wearing a long sweater.
Sophisticated accessories
Let go of the chunky arm candy and replace it with timeless jewelry pieces you’ll wear again and again. I recently got a few elegant jewelry pieces from Ana Luisa that I love dearly and wear again and again. They are able to offer lower prices by cutting out the middle man and the quality is excellent. Don’t be afraid to invest in pieces you’ll wear again and again like a nice watch.
Neutral Colors
I wrote about this in my recent blog post “How to Look Expensive.” Neutral colors like white, beige, cream, caramel, gray and black are timeless. And if you get quality pieces (aka not from a fast fashion store) they can be great investment pieces.
Monochrome Looks
Take it one step further and wear the same color head to toe for a complete monogram look. It’s always a classic look. Check out how I styled a burgundy monochrome look here, blush here and blue here,
