I decided to get out of town for a weekend getaway to Laguna Beach. My mom used to take my sister and I there every summer. Not a lot has changed since I was a kid. Only now I was more drawn to the clothing stores than the toy stores. Laguna Beach is only an hour and a half drive south from LA. The weather forecast said cloudy around 70 degrees. Eventually the sun came out and it was warm enough to lie on the beach. We a bit of research before we took off to plan out where we wanted to go for the day.
The first stop was lunch at Carmelita’s. If you have a small party then don’t bother waiting for a table, just eat at the bar. I had the vegetarian green burrito and it was delicious! Afterwards, we drove about 10 minutes south to 1000 steps beach. You have to take a pretty steep staircase of 200 something steps to get to the beach, but it is totally worth it. It is much less crowded than the other beaches in Laguna. There is a cool cave at the south end of the beach, but the lifeguards wouldn’t let anyone go in it. Boo.
After a short nap and shooting these photos, we stopped by Victoria Beach. It is only 7 minutes north of the first beach and has a really neat castle tower that used to be a staircase. I posted this picture on Instagram to show you what I am talking about and I’ll show you more photos in an upcoming post. After the beach we stopped by Wyland’s gallery. He is a marine life artist with galleries all over the world and my mom always brought us here when we were kids. I actually had the honor of meeting him once, too. It is probably my favorite art gallery in the world.
I survived the day wearing this flowing dress and this gorgeous tote. I wanted a look that could take me from the beach to a nice dinner and the dress definitely did the job. A cozy sweater came in handy too since it did get pretty cold at night being so close to the ocean.
For dinner we ate at an Italian restaurant called Alessa. It was SO GOOD! I had the Bolognese and they make the pasta in house. We actually didn’t yelp any of the restaurants we went to. We just walked by, liked the ambiance and got a table. We considered staying in Laguna for the night, but decided to just drive home after dinner. We figured the money we would have spent on a hotel could instead buy us another day trip. Now the question is, where do we go to next?! Any suggestions?

P.S. And on a side note- I updated my computer last night not realizing my photo editing software (Aperture) would not be compatible with the new software. Luckily, I was able to figure out Photoshop which I have been meaning to learn anyway. Not bad for a first timer right?!
