Last weekend I attended the Kentucky Derby Party at Santa Anita Race Track with ShopLately and America’s Best Racing. It was a fantastic day starting with the outfit I couldn’t wait to show you! The drop waist yellow dress and studded clutch from ShopLately and my DIY Derby Days hat. I had hinted that I would be a ray of sunshine didn’t I?

Our day started off in the Club Room with an amazing buffet. It was quite hard to pull my self away from the dessert table and I am sure you can see why with these photos. I did end up entering the hat contest. Honestly the beautiful hats are my favorite part of derby days. The amount of time, color, and creativity that goes into each of them is astounding. I will say though that I did not agree with 2 of the 3 judges picks for most creative hats. One was carelessly thrown together with items from a hot tray and the other looked like a third grader’s homework project gone wrong. Judges please keep it classy next time.

Later Kier and I were escorted to the Chandelier room. This exclusive members only area is stunning, but what really took our breath away was the powder room. Gorgeous blush pink chaise lounges and antique perfume bottles. We loved it in there so much we took Kier’s pictures there.
I placed one bet all day because I would rather buy shoes than gamble. I bet on Handsome Mike because I love the name and doubled my $5 🙂
Funny story, my camera battery died half way through the day and almost missed getting to take my outfit photos. Thankfully I had an extra battery in my car and was able to be let back in the grounds. Do yourself a favor and just bring the extra battery with you. We got to take photos at the perfect time of day- the golden hour.
