Happy Wednesday! Today I thought I would share a bit about me. I was inspired Chronicles of Frivolity’s secret sharing to share 10 secrets about myself. And since 2016 is the year I have decided to be more open about my life and myself, here it goes…
but first…
Shop my Look:
vest: Zara (old- similar and on sale version here) | top: Target | jeans: Express (super comfortable!) | bootie: BCBGeneration via DSW | bag: DailyLook (old) | sunglasses: Aldo Shoes | lipstick: Rimmel London So Kate #07
1. My real name isn’t Laura Lily
Laura is my read first name. Lily, however, is the name of my dog. My real name is Laura Yazdi. I am used to people calling me Laura Lily and always take it as a compliment if you do. I love the name and if I have a daughter I want to call her Lily.
2. I am obsessed with Kate Middleton.
If I could meet anyone in the world, it would be Kate Middleton, the Duchess of Cambridge. I idolize her in so many ways: her style, her title, her hair, her class, and the fact that she is always a classy lady. And she’s married to a prince. When the Royal Wedding happened I could barely sleep. I had dreams of what her dress might look like. When I finally saw it…I cried. If I could meet any one person in the world it would be her. Kate- I love you in a totally obsessed kind of way.
3. I have a horse.
When I was 15, instead of wanting a car, I wanted a horse. His name is Zcinny and he is a 19-year-old pure-bred Arabian gelding. The first time I rode him I hated him and thought he was the worst-trained animal. Eventually, I fell in love. I’ve had him for over 10 years now and he’s my baby boy. You can sometimes catch him on my Snapchat @LauraLilyYazdi. I have been riding horses since I was a teenager and spent my summers working at my barn learning to train and ride. I brought Zcinny with me from Minnesota when I moved to LA. No, he does not live in my backyard. Though that would be super cool. He’s boarded at a barn not too far from where I live.
4. I can sing.
And I don’t mean like hum in the car or be a goofball in the shower kind of sing. I mean I can seriously belt some Adele, Whitney Houston, Donna Summer, you name it. In middle school, I sang Whitney’s “I Will Love You” in my first talent show. I wish there was a video somewhere because I was SO nervous. In high school, I made the final rounds of 3 different talent shows (didn’t win-bummer) but that was probably because, again, I was SO NERVOUS. I love to sing- but I am too shy to sing in public. Even when another car pulls up next to me I get quiet. Maybe I’ll get the balls to record a video for YouTube. This leads me into my next secret…
5. I can be very shy…sometimes
I am the perfect blend of both my parents. I can be extremely outgoing like my dad or an introvert like my mom. Sometimes I am so shy I barely say a word and other times I am the one dancing on the table. It just depends on a) where I am b) who I am with and c ) how many drinks I’ve had.
6. I like to start 10 projects at one time.
And it has become very apparent while trying to complete projects in my new home. I’ll start one project, walk to another room, start another project. Before you know it- I have half-started projects all over the house that I haven’t finished any of them. It is amazing my living room is complete. Scratch that- forgot to finish hanging those damn curtains yesterday.
7. When I was younger I wanted to be an actress.
I wanted to wear all the big beautiful gowns and attend the movie premiers. I am still in awe when I step onto studio lots or get to go behind the scenes on movie sets. But because I am a bit shy, my career probably wouldn’t have gone very far. Thankfully I found blogging. Where I can be on and off camera when I want to be and have creative control over everything I do.
8. I lost my dad a little over a year ago
Unexpectedly and suddenly. I don’t like to talk about it, and it’s still hard for me to think about it. The hardest part is not being able to talk to him anymore and that he’ll never be able to walk me down the aisle on my wedding day. It’s hard for me to write this, but I know there are other girls like me out there that have lost their dads. I want you to know it is going to be okay and over time it gets easier. I think about him every day and every night I say good night to him in heaven because I know he’s looking down on me as my guardian angel.
9. I am the shortest person in my immediate family
At 5′ 9″ it is funny to think that I am the runt of the family. And not a small family either. My mom is 5’10”, my sister 5’11” and my brothers are 6’3″ and 6’5″. When we take family photos, my brothers always put me in the middle and lean on me. It’s ridiculous because anywhere else I go I am usually one of the tallest people.
10. I love to knit
Before the internet and social media took over, I used to knit in my spare time. I made everything from baby sweaters, scarves, hats, and purses. You name it I made it. I still have an entire box of yarn in case I get the urge again. My high school Spanish teacher used to joke with me that “I’d never get a prom date if I kept knitting in class like a grandma.”
Well, there you have it. There are 10 things you probably didn’t know about me. Anything else you’d like to know? Just ask! I am happy to share. Leave me a comment below or send me an email: Laura@LauraLily.com
